Julius Baer chief dies unexpectedly

Julius Baer, one of Switzerland’s best-known private banks, has suffered a heavy and unexpected blow with the surprise death of Alex Widmer, its popular and respected chief executive.

The bank said that Mr Widmer, who had appeared until very recently to be in the best of health, had died unexpectedly overnight. No cause of death was given, but Mr Widmer, 52, is believed to have taken his own life.
