Alistair Darling’s Budget does nothing to bring the public finances under control, David Cameron, leader of the oppostion, said on Wednesday.

The Conservative leader attacked the soaring levels of borrowing, arguing that Mr Darling had written himself into the history books and ”written a whole chapter in red ink”.
