China telecoms move raises hopes of overhaul

China kicked off a long-delayed restructuring of its telecoms sector on Friday that could leave the nation with three powerful operators offering both mobile and fixed-line phone services.

The announcement of a reshuffle of top executives and the takeover of a small fixed-line business by the parent of dominant wireless company, China Mobile, sparked heavy trading in shares in China’s four big state-controlled, but publicly listed, operators.
