Hedge funds explore the option of a listed existence

Hedge fund managers have traditionally been a secretive group content to operate in small partnerships and private firms, promising high returns in exchange for high fees and selling their products to a select band of investors away from the scrutiny of tightly regulated public markets.

But starting last year, they began to embrace the greater transparency of stock markets by taking their businesses public - as a way of both raising capital for their funds and realising the value in their own businesses.
