Alitalia is dead! Long live Alitalia!

If “Operation Phoenix” goes according to plan, Italy’s state-controlled and lossmaking airline will initiate bankruptcy proceedings on Friday and a new Alitalia-lite will rise from the ashes. Owned by a dozen or so Italian investors, it will merge with Air One, its smaller domestic rival.
