A few tractors are smoothing out the sand track that runs alongside the pitch and there is still work to be done in kitchens and VIP lounges, but the 94,700-seat stadium that will host next year’s World Cup final is almost ready for action.
Built within three years – about a year and a half faster than it took to reconstruct Wembley Stadium in London – Soccer City is a good indication of South Africa’s preparedness.
