DVDs and cable boost Viacom

Viacom reported a 16 per cent gain in fourth-quarter earnings as it benefited from DVD sales of films such as Shrek the Third and Transformers and a strong performance at its core cable television division.

For the quarter, Viacom earned $559.5m, or 86 cents a share, compared with $480.8, or 69 cents a share, during the same period a year earlier. Revenue jumped 19 per cent to $4.25bn.
