AOL tries to elbow aside TV networks

AOL made a bid on Tuesday to elbow aside traditional television networks in the race for a cut of $70bn in annual advertising spending, showcasing five new programmes and revamped features.

The event, which the Time Warner-owned internet group dubbed FirstLook, was a direct challenge to the “up-fronts”, the annual May showcase in which TV networks promote new programmes for advertisers.
