France Telecom on Thursday disclosed it had begun preliminary discussions with TeliaSonera, the Nordic telecoms company, about its informal takeover offer.

The French group said Gervais Pellissier, chief financial officer, had told an investor conference in Lisbon that France Telecom was in contact with TeliaSonera about “the conditions under which formal negotiations with TeliaSonera could begin”.
