Football starts to feel impact of the slowdown

It scarcely seemed likely that sports spread betting, which unquestionably comes under the heading of discretionary expenditure, would prove immune to the recession.

Even so, there is still a sense of surprise that Spreadfair, one of the four companies who dominated the sports spread business, should have fallen victim so early. A subsidiary of Cantor Fitzgerald, it ceased trading on December 1.
