Defeat puts spotlight on de Villepin

If only Dominique de Villepin had followed his own advice, he might not be in such a mess.

In his book Le Cri de la Gargouille, written before becoming France's prime minister, he said: "The development of balanced relations between different levels of society, the representation of collective interests by trade unions are meant to prevent pointless crises, rifts and head-on clashes."
