Buying the superyacht is the easy part; finding somewhere decent to berth it when you go cruising is the real challenge. Sadly, it is becoming increasingly difficult to simply turn up at one of the world’s most appealing ports or marinas and bag a berth for the night.
The super-rich who own or charter some of the world’s biggest and most impressive yachts may choose to show them off in some of the glitziest marinas – such as those at St Tropez, Cannes, Monaco, Portofino and Sardinia’s Porto Cervo – but the reality is that they are virtually full almost all the time. And so the cost of these sought-after berths skyrockets.
