Sterling slides ahead of rate decision

Sterling fell sharply yesterday as speculation on the outcome of today’s Bank of England policy meeting shifted towards a rate cut.

The argument for a cut was lent support from news that UK service sector activity had slowed after financial turmoil and that house prices continued to fall last month.
