Police break up illegal trade in precious metals

An alleged multi-million precious metals hijacking and smuggling ring was broken by South African and British police with a co-ordinated series of raids on Friday.

South African police and the elite “Scorpions”, the Directorate of Special Investigations, arrested 12 people in connection with an investigation of the theft and hijacking of £17m ($30.5m, 24.6m) of platinum-group metals from mines and refineries.
