Asia-Pacific markets gain on stimulus hopes

Taiwanese shares rallied on Wednesday to their highest in a month as news that a memory chip company had asked the government for help spurred hopes that consolidation in the industry was on its way.

The rest of Asia-Pacifc markets also made further gains, fighting off a drop in Wall Street overnight, amid continued optimism for government help and stimulus plans.
