Watchdog to link food additives to hyperactivity in under-nines

Artificial colourings and additives can cause hyperactivity in children, the UK's food safety watchdog will warn for the first time today.

The Food Standards Agency will issue guidance to parents after the publication of a study it commissioned. It concludes that food additives can exacerbate hyperactive behaviour in any child up to the age of nine.
