Sir Martin Sorrell’s much-abused BlackBerry finally gave up on Thursday morning. The previous day, WPP’s workaholic chief executive had launched a £1bn ($2bn, €1.3bn) bid for Taylor Nelson Sofres, the market research group, only for a rival approach to come in from Germany’s GfK a few hours later.
