A celebrated name from the history of British engineering disappeared on Monday when Crompton Greaves, one of India’s oldest companies, named after a pioneer British electrical engineer, changed its name for an abbreviated version aimed at reflecting its identity as an ambitious Delhi-based multinational.
Crompton Greaves was established in India during British rule in 1937. The electrical equipment maker now has $2bn in annual turnover and operations in nine countries.
