Halfords scraps bike store experiment

Halfords, the car parts and bike retailer, is discontinuing its experiment with independent bicycle stores, in spite of more Britons buying bikes to commute to work.

David Wild, chief executive, said Halfords would end the initiative – which was started in 2007, before his arrival – at a cost of about £1.2m.
