Elpida makes first profit for two years

Japan’s Elpida Memory on Thursday unveiled its first quarterly operating profit for two years highlighting the dramatic recovery in memory chip prices.

Dynamic random access memory chips are one of the most cyclical but widely used products in the technology industry, especially for PCs, and the rapid increase in spot prices over the last three months suggests manufacturers are optimistic about consumer demand for electronics over Christmas.
