Cadbury comes unstuck

Cadbury’s move into chewing gum has come partially unstuck, with the confectionery group reporting an unexpected fall in gum sales in the first quarter as the recession halts discretionary spending at convenience stores.

The 2 per cent drop in gum revenues, which account for one-third of Cadbury’s total sales, surprised analysts.
