Public warned of genetic test risks

Genetic tests that tell people how likely they are to suffer from common disorders such as cancer and heart disease are at best useless and could be dangerously misleading, consumers were warned yesterday.

The government's Human Genetics Commission will call next week for tighter regulatory control over DNA tests sold directly to the public, experts told a press briefing in London.
