After a day of ceremonial silences in New York, the Pentagon and Shanksville five years after the September 11 attacks, President George W. Bush on Monday night returned to the Oval Office to warn that the US was engaged in “a struggle for civilisation”.
The president said: “If we do not defeat these enemies now, we will leave our children to face a Middle East overrun by terrorist states and radical dictators armed with nuclear weapons.” (Read full text of speech)
