McDonald's claims fast food sales fighting off slowdown

McDonald's, the world's largest fast food chain, said yesterday that consumer demand for burgers and fries was proving resilient to economic weakness both in the US and internationally as it reported strong third-quarter results.

Jim Skinner, chief executive, said McDonald's was proving "recession resistant", with sales growth continuing both in the US and in European markets that were beginning to see slower consumer spending.
