Marketing: Sponsors eye chance to make their pitch worldwide

If Bafana Bafana, South Africa’s woeful national football team, is to have any hope of a successful World Cup campaign, they needs every scrap of support they can get. Adidas is doing its bit. The German sports good manufacturer and Fifa sponsor, has made a giant Bafana Bafana jersey measuring 60 by 40 metres, and is taking it around the country on a big bus.

Sponsors and world cup organisers will be hoping marketing gimmicks such as these stir not just South Africa’s footballers but its fans into a frenzy of World Cup excitement. Six months from the opening match, the marketing drums are starting to roll.
