Tokyo divines hope in record output decline

Japan may have experienced the worst of the economic crisis, policymakers and economists said on Wednesday, after official figures showed it suffered a record fall in economic output in the first three months of this year.

Data showed that gross domestic product slid 4 per cent quarter-on-quarter as domestic demand shrank and the export rout continued. The fall in output was equivalent to a 15.2 per cent fall on an annualised basis.
