A British Airways Boeing 777 long-haul jet from China made an emergency landing at London's Heathrow airport yesterday, only narrowly clearing houses and offices outside the airport's perimeter fence.

The jet with 135 passengers and 16 crew landed short of the runway, crashing on to a grass area just inside the perimeter fence before skidding several hundred feet to the edge of the runway.
