Second top regulator quits BA-AA case

A bid by British Airways and American Airlines to boost co-operation on trans-Atlantic flights without breaking US competition laws has taken a new turn with news that a second senior regulator in Washington has recused himself from the case.

John Porcari, deputy secretary of the US department of transportation, has removed himself from the decision-making process after expressing support for the airlines’ application when in a previous job last year, a department spokesman confirmed on Wednesday.
