Middle East: Carriers in for the long haul

The oil-rich Gulf may be one of the hottest economic zones in the world, but the expansion plans of the region’s government-owned long-haul carriers still raise the odd eyebrow.

How, sceptics wonder, can such a small region accommodate three long-haul carriers – Dubai’s Emirates Airlines, Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Airways and Qatar Airways – all located within 250 miles of one another?
