Infineon eyes state loan as chip sales slide

Infineon, the German chipmaker, has signalled it could seek a loan or loan guarantee from the German government as demand for semiconductors slumps and the credit squeeze affects its search for debt refinancing.

Peter Bauer, chief executive, said Infineon welcomed the German state’s willingness to help companies ride out the recession and said he was “having some useful talks about this area”, although he refused to give any more details.
