In sports, a W is better than an L. The same should be true in markets but a W does offer more opportunities to lose as well as make money.

Markets have convinced themselves in recent days that an L-shaped recession, in which economic activity collapses and then stagnates, can be avoided. Last week’s US payrolls data, in particular, bolstered confidence.
