Eon puts Kingsnorth plant on hold

The controversial new coal-fired power station at ­Kingsnorth in Kent planned by German energy group Eon will probably not be operational until 2017 at the earliest, the company said on Wednesday, as it revealed it was delaying the investment decision on the project for “up to two to three years”.

Eon said lower demand for electricity in the UK meant there was unlikely to be a need for new plants until 2016.
