S Africa miners to strike over safety

More than 200,000 South African miners are expected to stage a national strike on Tuesday following a spate of accidents and fatalities this year.

Miners say they will no longer tolerate corporate inaction in the face of deteriorating safety standards, a spokesman for the National Union of Mineworkers, the body organising the one-day strike, said last week.
