FSA concerns over life insurers

Financial regulators are becoming increasingly concerned about the stability of UK life assurers amid the market turmoil that has slashed the value of the stocks and bonds they hold to guarantee pension payments.

Life assurers said that in recent days, the Financial Services Authority had asked them to complete a questionnaire that focused on their investments in corporate bonds, where yields have risen and prices fallen sharply in recent weeks.
