The recent moves by the British government to crack down on incitement to violence on the internet are long overdue, says Michael Whine, of the Board of Deputies of British Jews. “Some of us have been providing information about these sites for years, but getting the government to focus on the issue has been quite a struggle,” he says.

But the measures have alarmed many in the Muslim community, who say they are too wide-ranging and fear they will simply curb freedom of speech.
