Anger at Labour has vanished, says Straw

Gordon Brown is facing a “very lonely decision” on when to call a general election, according to Jack Straw, the justice minister, as the prime minister pores over figures suggesting he could win a snap poll.

Mr Straw, a close ally of the premier, says opinion polls show that Mr Brown has restored trust in the government since replacing Tony Blair in June. He also claims that public “sullenness and anger” towards Labour has vanished.
