Spencer keeps Africa close to heart

Michael Spencer’s latest punt, an investment in an African hedge fund, is an obvious move for the 52-year-old financier – combining his interest in the continent with his appetite for risk-taking.

The son of a UN diplomat, Mr Spencer was born in Kuala Lumpur but spent his childhood in Sudan and Ethiopia, before studying astrophysics at Oxford and venturing into finance.
