£300m VAT refund call looms

The government could face billions of pounds of claims for tax refunds after the European Union's highest court moved to scrap VAT charges on the management of investment companies.

The European Court of Justice yesterday ruled that these stock exchange listed funds should be regarded the same as open ended funds, which have been exempt from paying VAT on management fees since 1990.
