Endemol, the television production company behind Big Brother, on Monday expanded its global footprint with the acquisition of Southern Star, Australia’s largest independent television production and distribution group for A$75m (US$50m).

Endemol said the acquisition achieved the strategic goal of building the company’s distribution platform and bolstering its position as a major production force in Australia.
