Why pay news-stand prices? For 80 per cent off the cover price, you can have the entire magazine along with its 190 journalists, worldwide network of bureaux – and we’ll even throw in the website for free!
The news that BusinessWeek may be sold for a buck comes as little surprise in the media industry. Owner McGraw-Hill clung to the venerable weekly after jettisoning other money-losers, but deteriorating finances forced its hand. Advertising revenue for magazines, particularly financial ones, has plunged in this recession. BusinessWeek’s 40 per cent year-on-year drop in ad pages in the first quarter was even worse than bi-weekly competitors Fortune and Forbes.
