At least 12 people were believed to have been killed yesterday in a US missile attack carried out by a pilotless aircraft on a village in Pakistan's North-West Frontier region, prompting condemnation by the country's officials.

It was the first attack since General Ashfaq Kayani, Pakistan's army chief, said only his country had the right to carry out such attacks on suspected militant targets on its soil.
