RBC targets private banking in Abacus deal

Royal Bank of Canada on Wednesday moved to expand its private banking operations in the UK with the acquisition of Abacus Financial Services, one of the UK’s largest administrators of private trusts.

The deal, which follows several months of negotiations, highlights the growing desire by large financial institutions to find more ways of capturing wealthy clients, which are increasingly seen as a source of long-term revenue growth.
