Commission battle over environment comes to head

The battle between members of the European Commission committed to improving environmental standards and those backing a pro-business agenda is expected to come to a head tomorrow, when the Brussels executive meets to determine the future of its environmental policies.

The debate was called by José Manuel Barroso, the Commission president, amid growing unease among some senior commissioners over a controversial plan to combat air pollution.
