Nepal lawmakers to propose curbs on royal powers

King Gyanendra of Nepal will on Thursday face further humiliation at the hands of a newly reinstated parliament determined to strip him of control of the army, remove his immunity from prosecution and tax his income and property.

Under pressure from renewed street protests, lawmakers are expected to propose the changes in parliament on Thursday, providing a downpayment to Maoist rebels ahead of promised elections to a constituent assembly.
