Search for ITV head intensifies

Michael Grade, executive chairman of ITV, told concerned shareholders at the company's annual meeting that the US headhunter Russell Reynolds had been appointed to find his replacement as it became clear that several leading institutional investors had a preferred candidate.

Shareholder support has been growing for Tony Ball, former chief executive of British Sky Broadcasting, to become chief executive, and on a faster timetable than Mr Grade announced in a statement last month, the Financial Times has learnt.
