Shake-up for watchdog as energy policy shifts

The rising cost of environmental policies and shift in energy policy away from a pure focus on competitive markets will be marked on Tuesday by a reorganisation of Ofgem, the energy regulator, to cope with its new responsibilities.

Ofgem said the plans would not change its primary purpose of protecting consumers but Alistair Buchanan, chief executive, said: “Energy customers are concerned about climate change as well as the cost of energy.”
