Power: How to keep the lights on

Poles may soon be facing blackouts if the country’s aging power plants are not upgraded and replaced, warn energy analysts. Up to 60 percent of the country’s power generation assets have been in operation for more than thirty years and will soon be obsolete.

“It’s very probable that in 18 months time, when you go to switch on the light, there will be no power. There’s a large amount of obsolete stock. Demand is going up. It’s a really serious problem. We need a huge investment and we need to do it now,” says Katarzyna Rozenfeld, energy director at PwC, the consultancy.
