Sony fights to regain its technological edge

The ascent up the first four floors of the Sony Building in Tokyo's Ginza shopping district is still a pilgrimage for fans of high-tech cool.

Yet, in spite of the gawping tourists, all is not well at the world's most famous consumer electronics company, as yesterday's 8,000 job losses - and the axing of a similar number of temporary and contract jobs - show.
