Frelimo set to retain power

The party that led Mozambique’s independence war against Portugal is set to retain power after a much criticised election process.

According to preliminary results from polls that took place on Wednesday Frelimo, or the Mozambican Liberation Front, is on course to win about three-quarters of the votes, a bigger margin of victory than in any of the three other elections that have been fought since the end of a guerrilla war in 1992.
