Officials in the US and South Korea were scrambling yesterday to combat an unusually powerful cyber-attack that overwhelmed both government and private sector websites.

Malicious code recovered by researchers showed that the same computers were instructed to overwhelm websites in both nations. South Korean authorities said they suspected North Korea of being behind the electronic campaign.
